Staff Training

At Philip Parkinson Homecare, our staff are highly trained and are encouraged to engage with continual training opportunities to develop their own confidence and competence.

Induction

Regardless of experience all new starters with Philip Parkinson Homecare go through the same induction and onboarding process. This gives a thorough introduction to our core values and expected standards and behaviour required to be part of our team. This includes a period of shadowing which provides time to gain confidence in their new role.

Mandatory Training

Through in-house and online training, all new team members complete the Care Skills Certificate (if they do not already have it). Covering aspects, such as moving and assisting, first aid, food hygiene, infection control, medication, and health and safety. We ensure that all new carers shadow a more experienced carer for a probationary period until they feel ready to provide the care independently. Every year we provide a refresher, face to face group session with an external provider.

Continuous Professional Development

Team members are supported throughout their career with one-to-one opportunities for staff reviews with a yearly appraisal.

We offer support to those who are looking to achieve LQF Qualifications as well as further specialist certifications (see below).

We believe in a professional approach to training which focuses on carer development and the acquisition of skills and knowledge.

Training in Specialist Skills

Alongside this professional development and mandatory training, team members are required to completed modules appropriate to the needs of the clients they are caring for such as:
Dementia
Epilepsy
Diabetes
Peg feeding
Stroke awareness
Palliative and End-of-life care
This is not an exhaustive list and we offer a bonus scheme on completion of these modules.

Monitoring

Managers provide regular spot checks and supervision of carers to ensure that the standard of care provided is the best.
